Many people love the benefits of Botox and Juvéderm, but one common question is: How long is the downtime? The good news is that recovery is quick, and most daily activities can resume right away. However, there are a few important aftercare steps to follow to ensure the best results.

What to expect after Botox and Juvéderm

Botox and Juvéderm are non-surgical treatments with minimal downtime. Some mild side effects are normal, such as slight swelling, bruising, or redness at the injection sites. These usually fade within a few hours to a few days. Following proper Botox aftercare instructions will help speed up recovery and enhance results.

When can you resume normal activities?

  • Returning to work: Most people go back to work immediately after their appointment. If you have mild swelling or redness, makeup can help cover it up after 24 hours.
  • Exercising: Avoid strenuous workouts for at least 24 hours. Sweating and increased blood flow can lead to Botox migration or increased bruising from Juvéderm.
  • Lying down: Stay upright for at least four hours after Botox. This prevents the product from shifting to unintended areas.
  • Massaging the area: Do not rub or touch the treated areas for at least 24 hours to allow the product to settle properly.
  • Drinking alcohol: Avoid alcohol for 24 hours, as it can increase swelling and bruising.
  • Taking flights: If possible, wait 24-48 hours before flying. Changes in cabin pressure may contribute to swelling.

Tips for a fast Botox recovery

  • Apply a cold compress gently to reduce swelling.
  • Stay hydrated and avoid excessive salt to prevent puffiness.
  • Sleep with your head elevated the first night.
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure and heat for at least 24 hours.

How to reduce swelling after Botox and Juvéderm

Some mild swelling is normal, especially with Juvéderm. To reduce it quickly:

  • Use a cold pack wrapped in a cloth for 10 minutes at a time.
  • Avoid salty foods and alcohol.
  • Sleep on your back with your head slightly elevated.
  • Use arnica gel or take bromelain supplements to help with bruising.
