Since the late 1990s, both men and women have used Botox to rejuvenate their skin and improve their overall appearance. Also, with technological advancements, the increased popularity of social media, dating apps, and much more, our faces are on display more than ever. So, if reducing wrinkles and boosting your confidence are your top aesthetic priorities, you don’t have to agree to a surgical facelift.

Modern therapies allow anyone to alter their appearance, regardless of age, radically. One of the best ways to reduce wrinkles and act as a precautionary measure for wrinkles that haven’t developed yet is to receive treatment with botulinum toxin. Botox is more than a cosmetic procedure; it can improve your life, both physically and mentally, and your way of living.

Are you curious how that is possible? In this informative blog, Enriched Med Spa will explain how long it takes Botox to work and how it will rejuvenate your life.

Everything you need to know about Botox

Botox is not a brand-new product. One of the earliest non-surgical cosmetic procedures available today is Botox. As a result, it has the credibility of a solid track record, and users are aware of its safety and efficacy. It is one of the most well-liked and successful cosmetic anti-ageing therapies available for various factors and is more effective than you might imagine. Because Botox can limit muscular mobility, doctors also prescribe it medically.

What is Botox?

Certain muscle contractions can cause the skin to wrinkle or crease when a person makes the same facial expressions over and over, such as laughing, squinting, or smiling. Botulinum toxin’s BOTOX is an injectable, non-surgical cosmetic treatment that reduces these wrinkles or creases.

Thus, it is undoubtedly one of the most well-liked anti-ageing procedures for people who want to improve their physical appearance without undergoing a facelift or other more involved surgical operations. It has been a popular anti-ageing product since the FDA gave it the green light. Injections of BOTOX are most frequently given to:

  • Deep creases or wrinkles on the forehead
  • Eyes with crow’s feet
  • Between the brows, there are vertical “11” lines.
  • Bunny lines around the nose that are vertical

As per an article published in The New York Times, “While women over 40 make up the bulk of those who use botulinum toxin, the neurotoxic protein sold under the brand name Botox, there has been discussion on social media about how beginning treatment when you’re young can help delay the onset of aging symptoms”.

The fundamental truth is that if you start using the wrinkle-freezing Botox while you’re young, you won’t develop the grooves people try to “fix” as they age.

A recent study by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons found that in 2020, adults in their 30s accounted for around 811,000 Botox treatments or about 18% of the nation’s total. With endorsements from influencers on YouTube and TikTok, this “rejuvenation” trend appears to be particularly enduring on social media.”

How does it work?

When injected into the face, BOTOX interacts with specific nervous system components to stop the muscles from contracting. The muscles cannot contract, so they relax, making the surface smoother.

Frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles are most often treatable areas. Gravity- and UV-induced wrinkles are ineligible for treatment with Botox. Moreover, it can be applied on the chin, mouth corners, neck, and lip lines.

According to an article by Christine M Cheng, a member of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, “Compared to other cosmetic therapy products, BTX-A is less intrusive, relatively quick and easy to administer, has a reasonably rapid and apparent effect, a short recovery period, and is frequently cheaper.

How long does it take to work?

The individual, the area treated, the depth of the indentation being treated, and various other factors contribute to the outcome. Because the damaged nerves have “binding sites,” the chemical might stick to their surface and stop them from working. Your nerves’ capacity for binding determines how quickly the effects become apparent. In general, you should start seeing improvements within 24 to 72 hours, while some individuals might not show their full potential for improvement for five days or longer.

Following Botox injections, several variables might affect how long it takes to notice benefits, including:

  •  the particular genetic makeup of the patient
  •  power of the muscles in the face
  •  face’s area that is being treated
  •  quantity of Botox injections given
  •  number of Botox injections per year

During the following days after treatment, fine lines and wrinkles will become less visible with restricted facial mobility. Although it varies from patient to patient, most people begin to experience the benefits of their BOTOX injections 3 to 4 days following their procedure. After the operation, it usually takes 10 to 14 days to get the complete results. Each treatment’s duration varies from person to person.

According to this article on Botox, we can see how long it would have taken to show the result.

The maximal effect was noted at day 30 following injection, when 89% of participants in the two studies experienced at least a moderate (> or = 50%) improvement in the appearance of their glabellar lines, as rated by themselves, and 80% of the subjects had the severity of their lines at maximum frown reduced to mild or none, as determined by their doctor. There was a propensity for a higher percentage of participants to respond to Botox injections following a second and third treatment session in a noncomparative extension of these trials. Glabellar line Botox injections are generally well tolerated.”

Why does it take so long to work?

Therapy sessions take time to be effective because the neurotransmitters in the nerve must be blocked at the cellular level of the muscle to paralyze the powerful facial muscles.

This scientific article explains why Botox takes time to take effect.

“The way that botulinum toxin works is by cleaving essential proteins needed for nerve activity. First, the acetylcholine-using neurons’ presynaptic surface is where the poison particularly binds. Once the poison is attached to the nerve terminal, the neuron uses receptor-mediated endocytosis to take it up and store it in a vesicle.

A portion of the toxin is activated as the vesicle goes further inside the cell, pushing the toxin through the vesicle membrane and into the cytoplasm. Botulinum neurotoxins simultaneously recognize various receptor classes. The toxin cleaves SNARE proteins once it enters the cytoplasm, stopping the cell from releasing neurotransmitter vesicles. This prevents nerve signaling, which causes paralysis.”

In some situations, frequent dosage may result in the formation of antibodies against BoNT and corresponding responsiveness to therapy. Botulinum toxin can be used carefully by professionals to provide neurological patients with much-needed relief and respite while also improving their quality of life. It is widely used in cosmetic dermatology to reduce wrinkles by relaxing the muscles of the face.”
