Skin Tag Removal

WHAT IS a skin tag?

A skin tag is a small, soft, benign growth that typically forms in areas where the skin rubs against itself, like the neck, armpits, groin, or under the breasts. These tiny, flesh-colored or slightly darker bumps are made up of loose collagen fibers and blood vessels encased in skin. Skin tags are usually painless and non-cancerous, but they can be bothersome, especially when irritated by clothing or jewelry.

what causes skin tags?

Skin tags can develop due to a variety of factors, including:

  • Friction: Skin folds or areas of the body where skin rubs together can cause skin tags to form.
  • Genetics: If your family members are prone to skin tags, you may be more likely to develop them as well.
  • Age and Hormones: Skin tags are more common in middle-aged adults, and hormonal changes, such as those during pregnancy, may contribute to their development.
  • Health Conditions: Conditions like obesity, diabetes, or metabolic syndrome can increase the likelihood of skin tag formation.

Skin Tags vs. Moles vs. Warts

  • Skin Tags: Small, soft, and typically flesh-colored, skin tags hang off the skin by a thin stalk (called a peduncle). They are usually harmless and do not change over time.
  • Moles: Unlike skin tags, moles are generally darker in color, flat or raised, and do not hang off the skin. Moles can sometimes change in size, shape, or color, which may require further medical evaluation.
  • Warts: Warts are rough, often irregular growths caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). They tend to appear on hands, feet, and other areas, and unlike skin tags, they are contagious.
